Day 21 - York

We picked up our car at London City Airport - its a Nissan Qashqai - not quite an Xtrail but almost. It is electric start, electric button hand brake and reverse that needs your mouth in the right position for it to engage!

Getting out of London was surprisingly easy - thanks to the in car sat nav. We made our way up the M1 the major freeway north. After travelling for a couple of hours we pulled off at a service centre and had lunch. A massive selection of cafes and restaurants in a food hall which crossed over the freeway.

By now we had had enough of freeway driving so we went bush. Picking out a town to the north east we programmed into the sat nav 'no freeways' and proceeded to wind our way around the countryside and villages. Eventually we decided to head for York to base ourselves tonight and then tomorrow we will make our way across Yorkshire to the Lakes District and end up somewhere close to Edinburgh. It was nice to be out in the countryside, driving and not having to battle crowds.

Not a huge amount of photos taken today - the chief photographer kept having naps in the passenger seat!
