Today the focus was royalty. We started off at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official Scottish residence. We were mightily disappointed that we could not go inside as the Lord High Commissioner was in residence as the Queen's official representative at the Scottish Assembly. Pretty selfish of him not to share the digs! So we took tea in the Royal Tea Rooms and admired the palace from the gates.
We then walked back up the Royal Mile, stopping in at the various shops along the way. We took time to drop back into our apartment and leave behind our purchases (!!!!) before heading off to see the Royal Yacht Britannia. to get there we got a hop on hop off bus (which we heard some Americans in London calling a hoho bus). Through the streets of Edingburgh to the yacht. We had a fantastic tour through all the levels of the yacht from the top to bottom seeing the working parts of the ship and the royal quarters. We were able to enjoy lunch in the Royal Tea Rooms. Back on the bus in the late afternoon we completed the circuit getting a good tour of the city. We walked back to the Royal Mile and had a look around then back to put our feet up at last. After a break it was out for dinner at a fab restaurant down the road. Once again avoiding haggis - though we saw it served at other tables and it looked unspeakable!!!!
Channe is organising her purchases so that will take some considerable time .........
Tomorrow we head off to our last point of call - Stirling.
